Review of Product
Classrooms are evolving. In the early years, teachers taught their classroom lessons on chalkboards. Years later, teachers were able to upgrade their chalkboards to whiteboards. Today, whiteboards are still prevalent and glass whiteboards are making marginal inroads, but there’s also tomorrows boards — the smart interactive boards. Unfortunately, smart interactive boards are super expensive (hundreds of dollars for one dynamic touch screen board) and getting your typical employer to cough up the money to upgrade your classroom with a smart board is likely not going to happen anytime soon.
This is why projectors are becoming more and more handy for instructors. This projector by VANKYO is marketed as a home entertainment system (good for movies and video games), but if used creatively, it can also be used as a sort of semi-smart board. True, putting your projector over an existing whiteboard isn’t new, but having a smaller and portable projector is way better then the clunky projector that you need to reserve and wheel around. Instructors/teachers can project certain lessons and games (like scenario games, find Waldo type games, etc.), math problems, or play and pause videos all while writing on the white board. And although this projector was designed to display images and not words on a PowerPoint; many users were able to design their PowerPoint lectures (using images, adjusting the type of font and enlarging the size of their font) to make it work for their classes.
Additionally, this projector has built in sound, a focus dial and the ability to stream from various devices (laptops, smartphone, etc.) and services (Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, etc.). There are plenty of times where a short video is more effective then an hour lecture. Plus, at this price, the picture quality is great; and, unlike most projectors in this category, it comes with its own custom reusable carrying case. Along with the projector and case, you get a remote, a manual, an AV cable, a HDMI cable and a VGA cable. If you want to play something through your smartphone then you simply need to purchase an HDMI adapter.
Setting up the projector is a cinch, it’s pretty much ready for use once it’s plugged in. The biggest issue with this projector is managing realistic expectations. This is a good projector, with decent sound; however it does not have movie theatre sound quality. The sound is definitely a little dull, but you can set it up with your own speakers. Additionally, the video is good but the room needs to be really dark – if your classroom has windows then consider getting blackout curtains. Overall, Amazon users really liked the functionality and quality of this projector giving it 4.4 out of 5 stars with over 18,500 reviews.
